In May, we, at Chengdu, a place filled with beautiful blooming flowers, embark on a new journey.

On May 18, West China International Forum for Emergency Medicine 2023, the 6th Forum for West China Alliance of Emergency Medicine and the 2nd International Forum for Resourceful Emergency Care was grandly opened in Chengdu.

Since the first forum in 2013, the emergency medicine in West China has been living up to its name and making progress in the past ten years, adhering to its original intention and responsibility, and the forum has always addressed the pain points of the academic community and followed the frontier of science and technology. From refined management to high-quality development, from internal construction to putting people first, from informationization and big data to intelligent emergency medicine, from innovation and creativity to artificial intelligence, from interconnection to homogeneity, there are both exchanges of ideas and consensuses.

Emergency medicine practitioners gather together in Sichuan to discuss the discipline. In the tenth year, peers from all over the country got together here again to go on a new journey of emergency medicine!

Prof. Xu Shuyun from the Emergency Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Prof. Fei Jun from the Emergency Department of the Special Medical Center of the Army Medical University presided over the forum.

The forum was attended by more than 100 experts and scholars in the field of emergency medical care and intelligent medical care, including Mr. Jiang Jianxin, an academician of the Army Medical University, Prof. Zhang Yi, Director of Intelligent Interdisciplinary Technology Research Center of Sichuan University, and Prof. Zhao Xingji, Vice President of Chinese Medical Doctor Association. The venue was packed and the academic exchange atmosphere was strong.

At the opening ceremony, Prof. Cao Yu of West China Hospital of Sichuan University , Executive Chairman of the forum, Prof. Liu Lunxu, Executive Vice President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Mr. Jiang Jianxin, an academician of Army Medical University, Prof. Zhao Xiaodong, President of Chinese Association of Emergency Medicine Physicians, Prof. Zhang Guoqiang, Chairman-elect of Chinese Society of Emergency Medicine, Prof. Lv Chuanzhu, Chairman of Chinese Society of Emergency Medicine, and Mr. Xu Baohua, an inspector of Health Commission of Sichuan Province delivered speeches successively.

On behalf of the organizing committee of the forum, Prof. Cao Yu firstly expressed a warm welcome to the experts and participants present, and said that Chinese emergency medicine, after experiencing forty years of ups and downs and three eras of changes, has achieved fruitful results, and ushered in a stage of high-quality development in the last decade. Remembering the past and talking about the future, we must collaborate and developing together. The peers in the emergency medicine in West China gathered together in Chengdu for the tenth summit. This forum has two main venues and twelve branch venues, which will definitely create a wonderful stage for academic exchange.

Prof. Liu Lunxu noted, in the past ten years, emergency medicine and emergency care have played a pivotal role both in both disaster medical rescue operations and the treatment of patients with acute and critical illnesses. How to embark on a new journey has become an urgent issue for emergency medicine practitioners. The forum will center around the high-quality development of trauma medicine, construction and improvement of emergency medical system in the post-epidemic era, emergency medical management in county-level hospitals, application of artificial intelligence in emergency medicine and other hot spots, focusing on the frontier areas, displaying technologies, expanding vision and seeking common development.

Academician Jiang Jianxin emphasized that time is life, emergency care is of great significance, and emergency medicine is a vital, extremely challenging discipline. Trauma medicine and emergency medicine are closely related, and the construction of trauma emergency system is in the ascendant nationwide. The development of trauma medicine in the new era needs the strong support of emergency medicine. Only through synergistic development of emergency medicine and trauma medicine, can we forge a healthy China and a safe China in the new era.

Prof. Zhao Xiaodong said that emergency medicine in West China has made great achievements in terms of medical treatment, teaching and scientific research, and is at the forefront of the national emergency medicine field, and he looked forward to promoting the exchange on and progress of emergency medicine through the forum.

Prof. Lv Chuanzhu said that emergency medicine practitioners have played a pillar role during the past three years of the pandemic and delivered a satisfactory answer. Mr. Xu Baohua noted that health is an important symbol of national prosperity and national wealth, and it is also the common pursuit of the people. Emergency medicine and emergency care are important symbols of the development of modern medicine, the guardian of human life and health, and the collective reflection of the comprehensive strength of hospitals, which has an irreplaceable role in all kinds of public health emergencies and major disasters. This forum, which built a high-level academic exchange, will contribute to promoting the high-quality development of emergency medicine and emergency care in Sichuan and even in the country.

Plenary meeting of Emergency Medicine Branch: working together to let no effort go in vain

The third plenary committee of the first members of the Emergency Medicine Branch of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was chaired by Prof. Deng Peng from the Emergency Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University.


 


Prof. Cao Yu from the Emergency Medicine Branch of SCIMEA firstly summarized the relevant work of the first committee from the establishment of the special committee and the adjustment of the branch, the hosting of academic activities, the popularization of science, and the international exchange.

As a result, Prof. Cao Yu was elected as the 2nd president of the Emergency Medicine Branch of SCIMEA.


 


Seven experts, including Chen Muhu, Hou Yufei, Li Meng Qin, Li Xihong, Liu Jining, Zhang Shu and Zhang Xiaohong, were elected as the 2nd vice presidents of Emergency Medicine Branch.


 


Cao Linghong, Chen Ying, Du Yu and 23 other experts were elected as members of the 2nd standing committee of Emergency Medicine Branch.


 

 


More than 50 experts, including Cheng Yongsheng, Deng Peng and Dong Xia, were elected as the 2nd members of Emergency Medicine Branch. Prof. Deng Peng was elected as the 2nd secretary of Emergency Medicine Branch.


 


After the election, as the new president of the Emergency Medicine Branch, Prof. Cao Yu said in her speech that in the new era of globalization, emergency medicine is facing great opportunities and challenges, and international medical exchanges will certainly play a greater role in promoting talent training and leading innovation, providing strong impetus for the development of emergency medicine. In the past, the Emergency Medicine Branch has overcome the difficulties of the times as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the international situation, and invited experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, Israel, Russia, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to conduct extensive and in-depth academic exchanges with us. This year, the Emergency Medicine Branch continued to expand its influences and for the first time invited experts from Uzbekistan and India to join the academic international exchange on emergency medicine. In the future, the Emergency Medicine Branch will stand from a higher perspective and take a broader view to coordinate and plan the future development of the emergency medicine discipline. Empowered by technology, the branch will, with the help of the intelligent platform and value assessment system of SCIMEA, link the supply and demand parties to facilitate the transformation of more results and maximize the value of its members. The branch will make continuous efforts to promote the development of emergency medicine.

Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, said that SCIMEA, as a comprehensive and international academic exchange platform, is expected to provide more support to the experts of the Emergency Medicine Branch. Firstly, it will support international exchange, which not only means domestic experts “going out”, but also “bringing in” foreign experts. Secondly, through the creation of corresponding academic journals, it hopes to provide a better academic platform for experts. Thirdly, it is also expected to become a supporting platform for the transformation of results, helping experts to market their research results. Fourthly, it will establish a popularization platform to popularize the knowledge of emergency medicine through live broadcast and other means. All in all, SCIMEA is always trying to do things that benefit doctors and people, and its efforts is bound not to go in vein.

About West China International Forum for Emergency Medicine 2023, the 6th Forum for West China Alliance of Emergency Medicine and the 2nd International Forum for Resourceful Emergency Care

Since the first West China International Forum for Emergency Medicine in 2013, it has gone through ten years, and the influence of the forum has continued to increase, and now it has become a famous academic exchange brand. The convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC marked the beginning of a new chapter of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The country has put the protection of people's health in a strategic position of priority development, and emergency medicine has also entered the 3.0 era. This is the era for inheriting the past and ushering in the future, and this forum will base on its ten years’ experience to embark on the new journey of emergency medicine development in the new era. The forum has invited leading scholars from home and abroad to present a stage for academic exchanges and collision of ideas in the form of keynote speeches, seminars and simulation skills training. The third Chengdu-Chongqing Emergency Circle Twin-City Forum will also be held at the same time.
