The 16th Nephrology Forum of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and the Annual Meeting of the Special Committee on Nephrology of SCIMEA Successfully Held

In order to further develop the nephrology in Sichuan province and western China and strengthen the academic exchange among medical institutions, the “16th Nephrology Forum of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and the Annual Meeting of the Special Committee on Nephrology of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association”, jointly hosted by the Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA), and the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, was successfully held in Jinjiang Hotel in Chengdu on April 9-11, 2021. The event was attended by more than 500 nephrology experts from inside and outside Sichua province on site and the expert forum was watched by over 20,000 people through online live streaming.

At the opening ceremony of the West China Forum, Mr. Li Weimin, President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Xie Chunguang, President of the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Vice President of SCIMEA, and Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA delivered speeches or made special reports.
President Li Weimin pointed out in his report titled “Development Ideas and Management Practices of Public Hospitals in the New Situation” that, new opportunities and challenges will always exist during the process of discipline construction and hospital development, and that pushing on and realizing the “three highs, one low and one innovation” initiatives—high diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy, high operational efficiency, high diagnostic and therapeutic level, low medical costs and innovative prevention and treatment capabilities—will contribute to the high quality development of hospitals and departments, and achieving “paired disciplines, doctors’ friendship” through hospital platforms will ultimately benefit grassroots patients.

The meeting consists of the annual summary meeting of the special committee, the main forum of nephrology forum, basic research forum, blood purification forum, chronic disease management forum, expert forum and other contents. The online guests included Prof. Harold Feldman from the University of Pennsylvania, Prof. Lan Huiyao from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and renowned nephrology scholars from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Shandong, Liaoning, Shanxi and Henan, etc. They, centering on the theme of nephrology research and treatment, conducted more than 60 nephrology lectures from the perspectives of clinical practice, academic frontiers, big data and information technology, hospital management and discipline construction and others. These content-rich lectures, with appropriate breadth and depth, provided a multidisciplinary and multi-faceted learning and communication platform for nephrology scholars.
Fu Ping, Chairman of the Special Committee on Nephrology of SCIMEA and Director of the Department of Nephrology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, pointed out that the Special Committee and West China Nephrology Alliance will be committed to integrating excellent medical and scientific resources in western China, promoting multi-dimensional deepened collaboration, helping the development of nephrology, driving the all-round integrated management of kidney diseases, empowering the nephrology departments of primary health institutions, and improving the nephrology diagnosis and treatment level with concerted efforts in order to serve the people and forge a healthy China.

In the future, under the leadership of Prof. Fu Ping and other experts and scholars from inside and outside Sichuan province, the Special Committee on Nephrology of SCIMEA and the West China Nephrology Alliance will, based in Sichuan to extend to the whole western China, deepen the functions and influence of the exchange platform on the basis of the existing 100 hospitals in the Alliance, and substantially improve the diagnosis and treatment level of kidney diseases in Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai and Tibet with a professional, efficient and internationalized platform service model.
