SCIMEA’s “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” Covered by China Social Organization

Recently, the story of SCIMEA’s “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” was covered in the18th issue (2022) of China Social Organization.
China Social Organization is the only professional journal in the field of social organizations, which is supervised by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China and co-sponsored by China Association for Non-Profit Organization and China Community Newspaper. The journal is dedicated to interpreting policies, reporting experiences and practices, tracking theoretical frontiers, and answering industry problems, and is the main channel and forum for social organization publicity, playing an irreplaceable role in promoting, guiding and serving social organizations.
This issue’s report focuses on promoting SCIMEA’s “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” project. Established in 2021, “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” project is sponsored by SCIMEA, with the Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province and Sichuan Association for Science and Technology as the guiding units. The project is aimed at carrying out comprehensive medical science education activities for children and adolescents aged 0-18.
In this June, Sichuan held its First Venture Philanthropy Contest which was sponsored by the Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province, and organized by Social Organization Administration of the Department of Civil Affairs of Sichuan Province and Sichuan Social Organization Service Center. Through over-a-month-long preliminary and final rounds of competition, SCIMEA’s “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” project was selected from the 252 projects in Sichuan to become one of the 30 grant-winning projects, and successfully signed as a “Children's Care Services” project.
After the signing, “Little Buttons Children’s Popular Science” has carried out children’s popular science popularization lectures around the three themes of children’s psychological development and sex education, children’s oral health and children’s daily first aid through leveraging SCIMEA’s rich medical resources. By adopting the [online + offline] Internet + lecture mode, the project joined hands with the professional doctor teams of West China Hospital and West China Second University Hospital, to have actively held “prevention and control of foreign body inhalation in children + CPR for children” science popularization activity in a combined offline and online method. Also, it conducted live-streaming activities on the themes of “prevention and control of myopia in adolescents”, “prevention and control of foreign body obstruction”, and “cleverly enhancing children’s attention and timely detecting and intervening problems” on the channel of “West China Hospital Doctors”, an authoritative medical media, which were viewed by more than 3,000 audiences. Furthermore, in active response to the pandemic, the project worked together with the Mental Health Center of West China Hospital to have launched H5 online assessment on the themes of “adolescents’ electronic device use” and “adolescents’ anxiety personality”, allowing children and their parents to learn health knowledge without having to leave home, which was widely recognized and welcomed by the public.
The “Little Buttons Children's Popular Science” project organizes activities in several kindergartens, schools and communities in Chengdu.
