“The Celebration Activities of the130th Anniversary West China Hospital of Sichuan University—The Inaugural Meeting of the Infectious Diseases Branch of SCIMEA and 2022 West China International Forum on Infection”, sponsored by Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA ) and the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, organized by the Infectious Diseases Branch of the SCIMEA and the Infectious Diseases Center of the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and co-organized by West China Alliance for Infectious and Liver Diseases,  was successfully held in Chengdu on October 28-30, 2022.

The inaugural meeting

On the evening of October 28, the inaugural meeting of the Infectious Diseases Branch of SCIMEA officially kicked off.

In addition, due to the epidemic prevention and control, some members of the branch including Prof. Lei Bingjun and Prof. Liu Zigui from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Hu Zhangyong from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College, Prof. Hu Xiaoyu from the Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Prof. Liu Fengjun from the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College were unable to attend the meeting in person, and they witnessed the establishment of the branch together in an online manner.

The first item on the agenda of the inaugural meeting was that Prof. Tang Hong, one of the initiators of the Infectious Diseases Branch of SCIMEA, delivered a report on the preparatory work.

And the leaders at all levels of the Infectious Diseases Branch were elected at the scene according to the election provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. As a result, Lei Bingjun, Liu Zigui and Zhao Liansan, were elected as advisors, Prof. Tang Hong as president of the Infectious Diseases Branch of SCIMEA, 8 experts, including Bai Lang as vice president, 24 experts including Chen Xin as standing committee members, 70 experts including Cao Meng as members, as well as Du Lingyao and Wang Ming as secretaries of the branch.

The establishment of the Infectious Diseases Branch of SCIMEA will build a platform for communication and collaboration among practitioners in the field of infectious diseases, help infectious disease physicians master new techniques for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, further improve the professional quality of the infectious disease team in western China, enhance the ability to prevent and control infectious diseases, and contribute to the construction of a healthy Sichuan!

Under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the combined online–offline approach has gradually become the mainstream conference mode, with live streaming allowing more people to participate. The conference, which was watched online by more than 18,000 people, invited academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, Nobel Prize Laureate, and domestic and foreign academic experts to give keynote reports, while providing Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation online and offline, building a good academic exchange platform for scholars in the infectious disease community.

The success of this conference will further promote the diagnosis and treatment standard of infectious diseases and improve the clinical diagnosis and treatment level of infectious diseases. It is expected the colleagues of infectious diseases in Sichuan province will work together to promote the high-quality development of infectious disease medicine!
