On the afternoon of September 11, 2021, the inaugural meeting of the Special Committee on Chest Wall Surgery of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (“SCIMEA”) was successfully held in Chengdu. The meeting, chaired by Prof. Lin Feng from Department of Thoracic Surgery of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, was attended by Prof. Chen Longqi from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Secretary General Zhang Mengfan of SCIMEA, Director Feng Gang from  Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Vice President Jiang Liangshuang of Public Health Clinical Center of Chengdu, Director Huang Yun from Zigong Fourth People’s Hospital, Director Luo Jiwen from Mianyang Central Hospital, Director Peng Huali from People's Hospital of Leshan City, Deputy Director Pu Jiangtao from Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Director Jiang Hua from Nanchong Central Hospital, as well as 100 odd experts and scholars in the field of thoracic surgery in Sichuan province.

Firstly, Prof. Chen Longqi, one of the initiators of the Special Committee on Chest Wall Surgery of SCIMEA, made a report on the preparatory work of the Committee. In his report, he indicated that the Committee was established under the personal guidance and involvement of Prof. Liu Lunxu, Vice President of West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, with the aim of forging a professional development and exchange platform for chest wall surgery, and, through a series of academic activities in Sichuan province and at home and abroad, promoting the exchange and cooperation of chest wall surgery in Sichuan province as well as in western China, improving the medical service level and treatment ability of medical institutions, solving the physical and mental health problems of patients with chest wall diseases, and pushing for the development and progress of chest wall surgery in Sichuan province.

The election of the Committee was organized by Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, and the results were read out. All participants elected the chairman, vice chairmen, standing committee members and other leaders at all levels of the Committee according to the election provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association. As a result, the Special Committee on Chest Wall Surgery of SCIMEA is composed of 100 odd experts in this field in Sichuan. Among them, Prof. Chen Longqi from West China Hospital of Sichuan University was elected as the chairman, Prof. Feng Gang as the chairman designate, 6 experts including Huang Yun as the deputy chairmen, 27 experts including Fu Bing as members of the standing committee of the Committee, 90 experts including Chen Lin as members of the Committee, Lin Feng as the secretary-general, Jia Gang as the deputy secretary-general and 6 experts including Fan Qiao as secretaries of the Committee.

Secretary General Zhang Mengfan then read out the “Approval for the Establishment of the Special Committee on Chest Wall Surgery of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association”, and issued the approval for the establishment and letter of appointment to the newly-elected chairman Prof. Chen Longqi.

Subsequently, Prof. Chen Longqi delivered a speech on behalf of all the members of the Committee and thanked again for the support of the establishment of the Special Committee on Chest Wall Surgery. He noted that the development of thoracic wall surgery is inseparable from the joint exchange, cooperation and discussion of relevant experts, and the establishment of the Committee of SCIMEA is to make full use of the advantages of the industry platform of the SCIMEA, gather the resources of experts in the field of chest wall surgery, and promote the international and domestic academic exchange, education and training, scientific research papers, transformation of results, popularization of science, grassroots clinic, standardized treatment and other series of work, so as to continuously improve the diagnosis and treatment of chest wall surgery in the province.
