In order to comprehensively improve the diagnostic capability of ultrasound physicians in Sichuan province and better carry out ultrasound academic and technical exchanges, the inaugural meeting of the Ultrasound Medicine Branch of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association (SCIMEA) was successfully held on June 17, 2023 at the Century City New International Convention & Exhibition Center, Chengdu. Nearly 100 experts attended this inaugural meeting. The establishment of Ultrasound Medicine Branch aims to build a professional communication platform in the field of ultrasound medicine and promote the high-quality development of ultrasound medicine.

Ms. Zhang Mengfan, Secretary General of SCIMEA, Prof. Qiu Li, Prof. Luo Yan, Prof. Tang Hong, Prof. Chen Qin and Prof. Jia Yiping from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Luo Jun from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Prof. Xia Jizhu from the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Prof. Yang Fan from West China Second University Hospital of Sichuan University, Prof. Yue Wensheng from Affiliated Hospital of Chuanbei Medical College, and Professor Luo Jun of Deyang Medical University. Prof. Yue Wensheng from the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Prof. Zheng Hong from Deyang People's Hospital, Prof. Zhou Yang from the Third People's Hospital of Chengdu, and other medical peers from all over Sichuan attended the inaugural meeting.

The first item of the inaugural meeting was a report on the preparatory work by Prof. Qiu Li, the main initiator of the Ultrasound Medical Branch of SCIMEA. Prof. Qiu Li reported on the background, development purpose, preparation process and distribution of members of the branch. She hoped the branch could build a platform for academic exchange for ultrasound medical professionals in the province and further clarify and deepen the research direction of ultrasound discipline. Through further academic exchanges, a closely connected and well-organized double-linked system will be formed to strengthen the management of physicians in this discipline, standardize the diagnostic standard process of ultrasound physicians, strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation, and enhance homogeneous diagnosis and treatment capabilities, so as to further improve the diagnostic capability of ultrasound physicians for the benefit of people's health.

Later, Mr. Tong Yubo, Director of Academic Conference Affairs Department of SCIMEA, organized the election of the special committee and read out the results. According to the provisions in the Articles of Association of Sichuan International Medical Exchange & Promotion Association,  the leaders at all levels of the branch were elected at the scene through recommendation, self-recommendation and nomination, and at the same time reporting to the Secretariat of SCIMEA for review and the branch for deliberation.

As a result, Prof. Luo Yan was elected as honorary president, and Tang Hong, Luo Hong and Chen Qin as advisors, Prof. Qiu Li as president, 8 experts including Jia Yiping, Lu Qiang, Luo Jun, Xia Jizhu, Yang Fan, Yue Wensheng, Zheng Hong and Zhou Yang as vice presidents. 24 experts, including Bai Wenjuan, as members of the standing committee, 67 experts, including Cheng Chunxia, as members, and 2 experts, including Ling Wenwu, as secretaries of the branch.

Prof. Qiu Li delivered a speech on behalf of all members of the branch. She sincerely thanked her colleagues for their trust and support, and expressed that she would join hands with the medical peers, adhere to the purpose of the SCIMEA, rely on the platform of the SCIMEA, actively play the role of the SCIMEA as a bridge, actively build academic exchange platform, strengthen social responsibility, improve the service management ability and business of ultrasound physicians, and carry out multi-level continuing education, health activities at the grassroots level, and popularization of science and education to promote ultrasound medicine in Sichuan province.

Ultrasound medicine, as the most important medical examination tool, is indispensable to modern medicine. The establishment of the Ultrasound Medicine Branch is of great significance to the integrity of the overall medical structure of SCIMEA. We would like to thank Prof. Qiu Li and other outstanding experts for joining the Ultrasound Medicine Branch. The branch is about to take up its social responsibility to combine differentiated development with the national development strategy to deliver excellent ultrasound medicine technology and experience to the countries along the Belt and Road. Grass-roots work, academic research, popularization of science, transformation and innovation all are the directions we are going to work on.
